What is Xeomin®?
Xeomin® like Botox® is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that works to temporarily prevent the facial muscles from contracting. When the muscles are no longer able to create the repetitive movement that forms the lines and creases, they begin to fade. This results in a smoother more youthful appearance. These lines and wrinkles will continue to improve with subsequent treatments and essentially disappear.
The most common areas injected are crow’s feet, the glabellar area of frown lines, located between the eyes, forehead wrinkles, lip flip, the neck bands (platysma bands) that occur with age. As well as the vertical lines that appear around the mouth, especially when you “pucker” your face. Xeomin® can also be used to provide a lip flip to achieve a fuller upper lip without dermal filler. Xeomin® can also reduce migraine headaches, TMJ symptoms, and perspiration of the underarms.
What is the Difference Between Botox and Xeomin®?
Botox and Xeomin® are both a neuromodulator made up of botulinum toxin that works to make wrinkles disappear. Xeomin® is uniquely purified and does not contain the accessory proteins found in Botox® and Dysport®. With fewer ingredients, there is less likelihood that your body will become resistant to the treatment.
Does Xeomin® Hurt?
Xeomin® is a relatively short procedure that is no more uncomfortable than a mosquito bite.
How Long Does Xeomin® Last?
The length of time between treatments does vary by individual. However, Xeomin®, like Botox® and Dysport® lasts an average of 3 to 4 months. With repeated treatments, the results may last longer.
Xeomin® typically starts to take effect within 3-7 days after your treatment. This time varies from patient to patient and can even from treatment to treatment. Complete results will continue to become apparent for up to 3 weeks after your Xeomin® treatment.
Is Xeomin® Safe?
Xeomin® obtained FDA approval in 2010 and has quickly gained popularity and is a favorite to many patients and aesthetic providers.
Serious side effects are rare with the most common side effect being bruising. Xeomin® is not appropriate for woman who are pregnant or breast feeding.
